How to Prevent & Handle Childhood Emergencies: A Handbook for Parents and People Who Care for Children

This handbook provides family members and others caring for children with basic information on preventing and responding to childhood emergencies. Topics include how to obtain help for a sick or injured child and determining what is and what is not a child health emergency. Specific steps to take while waiting for emergency medical assistance are provided for choking, poisoning, drowning, bleeding, burns, and other emergencies. Sections on preventing emergencies feature safety checklists for use in identifying and reducing home and community hazards. A list of organizations offering safety information and a bibliography of recommended reading and videotapes is also included.
